Happy (early) Thanksgiving!

Here is an early reminder - a must for your calendar:
Waggin' Trails Rescue Foundation will be ringing in the holidays with a wine tasting event at the beautiful Waterfront Hilton Beach Resort in Huntington Beach on December 4 from 6:30pm - 9:ooopm..  This fun event is held during this magical time each year to save the lives of many animals now in shelters throughout California who would not have a chance at life without the support of people throughout the community.   The Waterfront Hilton will be transformed into a wonderland with beautiful holiday decorations.  Waggin' Trails Rescue Foundation is inviting everyone to celebrate the season with the knowledge that you are saving the life of an animal while enjoying a warm and cozy evening of fun and entertainment. For only $25, you will have the opportunity to taste outstanding wines from the Napa & Sonoma Valley (open pouring stations).  The chef of the Waterfront Hilton has a very tasty and REASONABLY priced menu prepared for your enjoyment to complement the wines that will be served.  And once again we are proud to feature Jim Nichols and his amazing music to entertain everyone throughout the evening.   Please go to www.WagginTrails.org to purchase your ticket or call  714-328-8661 for more information.  And please help us spread the word for this event.  It is very fun and 100% of the proceeds goes to saving the lives of dogs on "death row" and transports them to non-impacted shelters far north where folks are waiting to adopt!!

But before Dec 4 shows up, we've got some other upcoming you may be interested in.  Next week we have the monthly RBN Networking Lunch at Seacliff Country Club.  Tuesday the 19th at 11am.  They are offering a special for this meeting.  All first time guests can attend for the member price of $25 and have a display table free (if they want one).  All the info can be found at www.rbninfo.com.  See you there.

The following day, Wed the 20th, come join the HB Chamber of Commerce for their networking lunch at Old World Festival Hall.  They will be serving up a traditional Thanksgiving meal for our us. Start that filling up on turkey early!  11:30am.  All the details can be found HERE.   And then to round out the day, you can join the chamber that same evening at their Network at Night mixer at Zimzala in the Shorebreak on the Strand.  530pm - 7:30pm.  $20 to attend which includes unlimited appetizer tastes and wine/beer.  Can't beat that deal.  Visit with friends, make new ones, meet other local business poeple!  Network, network!

Halloween is fast approaching in Huntington Beach, plus a few shout outs.

Upcoming in HB, here are few things:
Tomorrow (Saturday) from 10am - 2pm the Fire House at 18311 Gothard is having their annual open house.  This is not to miss event.  There will be tours, demonstrations, apparatus and educational displays and more.  Bring the kids!
more info: www.surfcity-hb.org

Oktoberfest is in full swing at Old World.  Get over there Wed-Sunday and party like a good German.  And if you don't make it out there in the next two weekends, make sure to show up on the final day of Oktoberfest on the 27th.  It is also the final day of the Wiener National Dog Races and there will be a doggy dress up and children's costume that day.  Also on that day, one of the village businesses, owner of Bella Musica, will be conducting and performing in a jazz band. Both she and her husband are qualified performers in Carnegie Hall - that will make for some great music.

There are plenty of other events going on this weekend as well as all the days to come, make sure to check out the calendar on www.TheLocalHB.com for tons of info.   Speaking of calendar - is your calendar marked for the monthly networking at SeaCliff Country Club.  Next Tues, the 15, is the RBN luncheon.   Please visit www.rbninfo.com for all the details.

Have you enjoyed a delicious Italian meal lately?  I happen to be particular to Baci Italian Restaurant on Beach (near Garfield)… there food is SO good.  And for a bit of good news, they just lowered the prices on their menu!  No excuses – you should give them a try.  Did you know they have a private banquet room?  It accommodates up to 100 people perfect for reception dinners, small weddings, business or networking meetings, holiday parties, etc.   If you or anyone you know is looking something like that, make sure to contact Angelo, the owner, and tell him I sent you.  He will take good care of you (and he works with your budget!!).  All the contact info is on their site, www.BaciRestaurant.com – and next time you are on facebook, look them up and like that.  Thanks much.    Oh, one more thing about Baci, I happen to know they are looking for a weekend bartender.  Keep your ears open if you know someone.  :-)

Since I am on a recommendation roll, let me do a shout out for Salon Ambiance.  If you are in need a “touch up” to get ready for all the upcoming holidays, these guys are great.  Personally, I see the owner, Sopi.  They are on Warner near Bolsa Chica.  Sopi will take great care of you…  714-846-5900.

Yea, I know this is a long one, but I haven’t sent out an email in a while.  :-)
Halloween stuff:
October 26 – Huntington Harbour Mall.  Bring out the dogs or come to find a furry friend at the “Hauntington” Harbour Halloween Festival.  11am-3pm at the mall there will be dog & cat adoptions, vendors, food, photos, and of course a dog costume contest (and for kids too)!  www.huntingtonharbourdogfestival.com has more info.   If you or someone you know would like to set up a table to show off your wares, hand out samples, etc, you are more than welcome to.  Just let me know ahead of time.  No cost, you just have to bring your own table & chairs and ez-up (if needed).   Pass on the word – it is in support of Waggin’ Trails Rescue Foundation and we want to make this a grand event.

The Children’s Library (in Central Library) is once again doing their annual Halloween Magic Show starring Johnny Ace Palmer - Wednesday, October 23 at 4 PM and 7 PM in the Library Theater. Tickets are $4 each and they are available NOW at the Children’s Desk. Advance ticket purchase is recommended because this popular show sells out every year!  Children may wear their Halloween costumes to the program. Following each show there will be a costume parade. Children will march up the circular ramp, around the adult reference area and end up in the Children’s Department where will be able to pet Johnny Ace’s pet rabbit, Snowball. Moms and dads – don't forget to bring your camera so you won't miss this great photo op!

And of course on the day of Halloween come downtown for the annual Halloween Festival on Main Street and at The Strand (on 5TH Street), 4pm-8pm.  Kids can Trick or Treat with local merchants in downtown H.B. and enjoy free activities. Pony Rides, Petting Zoo, Bouncy Houses, Giant Slide, Draco the Dragon, 40 foot Obstacle Course, Face Painting, Costume Contests, Police and Fire Departments with their vehicles include an antique fire truck, Boo Walk of Chills and Thrills on Walnut & Main Street, plus a whole lot more to see.  Don’t have a costume?  Simply Halloween store on 5th and Walnut gives 10% off costumes if you mention the costume contest.

Get great kites and flags on the HB Pier!!

Hey HB friends: The flag / kite guy on the pier posted two HB flags and is currently taking pre-orders. He has been out of stock for months! He wasn't planning on ordering more because it takes so long to sell them. (He gets mostly out of towners who don't want our HB flags!) I think there are enough proud HB people that want to display an HB flag that we can sell these out easily. I usually buy 2 a year to always have a nice looking one flying. If you are interested in getting a flag (or two) please place your pre-order now. The faster he reaches his target amount of pre-orders, the sooner we all get our flags! Thanks for supporting an HB small business. Go towww.kiteconnection.com search "surf city". That will take you to the page to choose between the flags available for pre-order. IF YOU PLAN TO PICK UP FLAGS IN PERSON:
use PROMO CODE: "freehb" at checkout (if you are ordering ONE flag, and you will get a discount equivalent to the shipping (within a penny or so). If you are ordering MORE than one, DO NOT USE THE PROMO CODE, shipping will automatically be FREE. Happy Shopping!

US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach

If you haven't heard all the rumblings or been downtown this past week, you might not know the US Open of Surfing starts tomorrow, Saturday, and runs for a week. Get on down there if you love the crowds and all the Open has to offer.  But beware, it is going to be CRAZY.  :-)
The calendar on TheLocalHB has the full schedule of events if you want to check it out.

This mini blast is actually more about helping out a couple supporters of TheLocalHB.

First, one of favorite pizza places in town is Pizzarito at Bella Terra. Well they happen to be one of the choices in the pizza category on the Best of the Westside survey currently going on.   Please take a moment and support a local establishment:  http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/BestofTheWestside.  It is a fairly long survey, so if you want to only vote for Pizzarito, just scroll down til you find it.  There are other categories that you may feel strongly about - have at it.   I thank you for helping them out.  They have been a supporter of TheLocalHB since the beginning!!

And one more,,, another friend of mine (Local HB supporter) has a daughter who is a singer/songwriter.  Quite talented.  She is trying to raise  money to put out her first EP.  If you love music and like to support the arts, take a moment and check out her site:  http://ameliabarron.com.  From there you can listen to her music and make a donation if you'd like to help her make it is the competitive world of music!  :-)

Thank you in advance, now get out there and enjoy yet another beautiful weekend in HB.

(a belated wishing you a) Happy New Year

Have I been a slacker in my posts???   A very belated Happy New Year to everyone and I apologize for letting so much time go by since my last update!  I have been overly busy with work - building lots of websites for local businesses, but of course that is a good problem to have!

So, a couple of things coming up you might want to know about:
Jan 31, 6-8pm at Central Library (7111 Talbert Ave) the Waggin' Trails Rescue Foundation is hosting a very special fundraiser - an evening with Intuitive Medium Bonnie Whiting.  Experience the magic of this very popular Psychic Medium Show. With Bonnie's pioneering techniques, Bonnie gives extraordinary accurate readings with specific facts and exquisite timing. Laugh and learn, be inspired when Bonnie connects you with your loved ones and pets that are in the Afterlife.  Bonnie will also teach how her simple techniques work, giving you the tools to enhance and maintain your own intuitive awareness. She will also help you identify your own intuitive strengths, making you more equipped to make better life choices. This promises to be a super fun evening for a great cause.  Only $25 per person which includes the show plus appetizers & beverages.  www.WagginTrails.org for tickets and more info.

Ready to help kick cancer's butt? The following night after Bonnie, Feb 1, join us for the Relay For Life Kick-Off party.   Also 6-8 pm at the student center at Goldenwest College.  Get involved, enjoy food, drink, silent auction and meet those involved with the Relay (which will be held May 18/19 in Central Park).  I've been involved with this for years. The kick-off is always enjoyable and the actual Relay is so worth while.  All the info on the site:  www.relayforlife.org/huntingtonbeachca.

Finally, for this email at least..... Are you a Chamber of Commerce member?  Even if you aren't and looking for a super fun event, our Chamber is holding their Annual Dinner February 22nd.  It is open to all.  I've been going since I joined the Chamber and this is by far one of the funnest events.  It is so fun because each year there is a theme and they encourage guests to decorate their table in the theme and even dress to the theme!   This year it is a casino night.  So there will even be casino gaming to enjoy on top of everything else.  You can image all the creativity that will go in to this one.  I already signed up to have a table.  If you know me, or have been before, you know I like to do it up right.  :-)
Feel free to contact me if you are planning on going and would like to sit with us.  I have a couple spots still open.  Go the Chamber's site, HERE for all the details.  If you'd like to see  photos of past dinners, I've got a lot of them posted -table decorations and outfits - on my album:  www.TheLocalHB.shutterfly.com.  Check it out.

And like always, there is tons of other stuff going on in HB, just go to the calendar section of www.TheLocalHB.com to find an event for you!
