Events this weekend in Huntington Beach & new businesses in Surf City Savings program

so, you ask, "what is going on this weekend in Huntington Beach?", well let me tell you, there definitely is some good stuff and plenty of it.

Oktoberfest at Old World is fully underway. www.oldworld.ws has the schedule. get out and do some chicken dancing and beer guzzling. I'll be popping in there next week for Chamber of Commerce night (Thurs)!

On Saturday you will find the National Alliance on Mental Illness 5k walk: www.namiwalksoc.org ; Shipley Restoration Days: www.shipleynature.org ; Tribal Festival, Wetlands Tour, 2010 SoCal Film Festival - descriptions on the calendar of TheLocalHB. And one big event is the Grand Re-Opening of the College Country Shopping Center at 7378 Center Ave (at Gothard). It also doubles as the grand opening party for Good to Go Restaurants & The Living Temple. There will be Live music, Free Samples, Fun and Games, Raffle Prizes. It runs all day - 11am to 6pm, with some special music at 5pm.

The big deal for Sunday is the "Walk for the Animals" at 9am in Central Park (behind the Library). Take a walk and have some fun…Hawaiian style! 13th annual “Walk for the Animals” benefits the Orange County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. There will be over 500 animal lovers and dogs for a morning of fun, so come decked out in your favorite Hawaiian shirt! Lots of details about the event can be found...you know where....TheLocalHB calendar!!

Coming up on the 23rd is the Distance Derby and they are still have open vendors spots. You can get some great business exposure at this one with over 700 runners, their families, and beach-goers present. If you are a business with a product to give away, you can have a free vendor spot. It could be drinks, food bars, gift items, promotional products like (good) goodie bags (no, a pen with your name on it does not count!). You just can't hand out literature alone. You bring your own ezy-up, table chairs. if you don't have a canopy, the charge is $100. Still a great deal. If you are a business interested in being part of it and hand out just literature, the cost is $250, and that includes the canopy. If you'd like more info about the event, contact Gisela Campagne at (714) 374-5397 or gcampagne@surfcity-hb.org

If you're looking for a great gift for your wife or girlfriend, look no further than Absolutely Fabulous , 6026 Warner Ave (at Springdale in the Warner-Dale Square),for a great selection of Christine Alexander fine Swarovski clothing. Right now they are offering 40% off her line!!! details at www.absolutelyfabulous1.com
