How about starting off your day with a great cup of Joe? And to top that off, how about a FREE cup of Joe....
Every Thursday during the month of October, 7am - 9am, Poverello Coffee is serving up a free cup of coffee, because as Mark (owner) says: "everyone deserves great coffee". Poverello Coffee roasts beans right their at their shop, 16582 Gothard Unit O. It should be your source for coffee for your home or business. Create your own flavors, doesn't get any fresher. Pop in to say hi to Mark and have a cup and take home a bag of superb artisan roasted coffee! ( www.poverellocoffee.com for more info).

This weekend you can learn a bit more about what our firemen do here in Huntington Beach at their open house . Saturday the 9th, 10am-3p at the 18311 Gothard Street firehouse. It is in recognition of National Fire Prevention Week. Activities include meeting firefighters, touring the station and learning fire safety tips. There will be demonstrations at 11:30am & 1:30pm of vehicle extrication and live fire senarios. info: 714-536-5411

On Saturday (with a repeat on Sunday) you can hear a talk by Michael Franzese entitled "He Quit the Mob and Lived". Michael grew up as the son of the notorious Underboss of New York's violent and feared Colombo crime family. At his most affluent, he generated an estimated five to eight million dollars per week from legal and illegal businesses. It was a life filled with power, luxury ... and deadly violence. His talk will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection Saturday at 6pm and again on Sunday at 10:15am where he'll recount his life in the mob and tell about his dramatic conversion. That should be an interesting story. More info: 714-962-5005

Do you have something on your calendar for Halloween yet? Do you like throwing on that costume and having a frightful good time? On Friday the 29th of this month, yours truly will hold my Annual Halloween BOO! the only downside is I still have to throw the party in Long Beach as I haven't been able to find a place around here that will accomodate me. bummer huh? Well if you feel like coming to a great party, all the info can be found at www.TheLocalCoast.com . it runs 8pm -2am. It is $20 and that includes food and all the fun you can handle (no host bar). There will be both a DJ in one area and live band in another for dancing. Tarot card reading and more. About 300 folks show up for this shin-dig. It is my 22nd year throwing this party so why not venture over the border and join the fun!
